14 Jul A Big Sister’s $1.2m Gift

Big Sister recently announced a $1.2 million donation to fund the building of Big Sister House, an integrated day care centre at Sylvanvale for children with disabilities and their siblings.

Sylvanvale Foundation CEO Pauline Stanley has received the last instalment of a generous donation from the Big Sister Foundation to help establish the Integrated Long Day Care centre at Sylvanvale’s Kirrawee site. To date, Big Sister has donated $1.2 million to fund the construction of the centre, which is well underway.

Due to open it’s doors in mid-2011, the day care centre will be the first of its kind in Sydney, accommodating all children and families. The innovative service will provide an additional 59 child care places which are at a premium within the Sutherland Shire. “This is an exciting project that will fill an enormous gap within the sector and bring peace of mind to many families,” said Sylvanvale CEO Pauline Stanley.

Chairman of the Sylvanvale Foundation Board, Lorna Stone said, “This generous commitment of funds will provide an enduring gift to the community. Sylvanvale and the local community will be well served by the foresight and dedication of Big Sister in their support for this project.”

Jan Pearse, President of the Big Sister Foundation said, “Sylvanvale has an outstanding record of delivering services and we are delighted to donate the funding to build this new and innovative centre. What attracted us to this project was the centre’s unique integration approach and the support it will provide to those whose needs are so often forgotten – the families of children with disabilities.”
